I am very proud and grateful to be a member of UUMC. This church continues to be a huge blessing to me and my family. It is where we continue to worship, seek comfort, celebrate joy, and experience spiritual and theological growth.
To keep this wonderful church moving forward at its strongest, and to meet God’s expectations for it as a place where all feel they can cometo learn and grow in their relationship with God, there needs to be planning for its future.
You have heard us talk about VCI for many months. The end of Phase 2 is now here. This Friday, September 30, the consultants arrive at UUMC to work with us. These consultants are specifically trained to work with churches to achieve their mission, vision and goals. In preparation for the visit, we have responded to their request for written information. With the help of many in the congregation we have provided them with over 500 pages of material, providing a broad review of UUMC from its history to current times. It includes the 360 information obtained from the congregation, a community survey from the neighborhoods and businesses surrounding us, and feedback and suggestions from local appointed and elected community leaders. It includes the summaries of congregational comments from sermons this summer, as well as several videos of our worship.
The consultants will also talk with us during the weekend. There are targeted focus groups and interviews on Friday and Saturday. In addition, there is a workshop Saturday for all members and friends from 10:15-3pm. You are invited. Come and give your input. Next Sunday the prescriptions will be announced immediately after worship, identifying the strengths UUMC can build upon and areas we need to address.
After we receive our prescriptions next weekend there will be Town Hall meetings for the church congregation to discuss the prescriptions. A Church Conference will be held Oct 23 immediately after church to vote on the recommendations.
I approach this weekend excited to learn what we can envision for UUMC in the future and what we need to do to achieve it. Everyone in this congregation is a part of the history of UUMC- whether a part of its early history or recent times. Now we have the opportunity to be a part of the future of UUMC. That is a very special opportunity. Please, come and participate.
