Vital Church Initiative Leadership Team
Faith in Action report in Sunday worship July 10, 2016
I am involved with the Vital Church Initiative (VCI) as a member of the Leadership Team at UUMC. I want to give you an update of where we have been and where we are going.
Over the last year, we have held monthly meetings with other churches, read books, held discussion meetings after Sunday worship and most recently asked for your participation to hold discussions at the various small group meetings. You have also individually been asked to provide input during sermons on a variety of topics.
We have entered a period of increased VCI activity and my purpose today is to make you aware of those events and how you can be involved.
A community survey of residents and businesses in our immediate geographic area will be conducted mid-August. This survey is intended to gauge the level of familiarity and impact our church has on our closest neighbors. This geographic area is defined as Spartan Village, Flowerpot neighborhood, and participants in the English as a Second Language classes. Past bulletins have asked for participants, and there is still need for a few brave souls. If knocking on a few doors to ask questions is in your comfort zone, please contact one of the VCI Leadership Team members, or make an indication on the bulletin’s One Stop page and place it in the offering plate today.
Next, starting 31 July, we will ask every one of you to complete a questionnaire. A link to the questions will be sent to your email address of record with the church. The link will take you to an online survey and is reported to take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If you are in doubt that we have a current email address for you, please update the One Stop page with the correct information. For those of you without easy access to a computer, there will be assistance available on Sundays. Look for more details in your bulletin, and in Tower Alert and Facebook. The survey period ends 28 August. Again, our goal is to have a response from every member and all regular attendees.
Moving into September, we will have a Pre-Consultation Event on 17 September from 9:30 – 2:30. The full Consultation Weekend starts Friday, September 30 and culminates on Sunday, October 2. The itinerary for those events will be published in coming weeks. These two events are the culmination of the VCI process and will involve our VCI Consultant Naomi Garcia. We hope you will prayerfully consider blocking time out in your busy schedules to attend and participate in these events.
Finally, we have been mindful there are many distractions in our lives, and we checked the calendar for Spartan Home football games. All events in the VCI process are game-free dates!
